Faculty, researchers and students get involved in a number of external initiatives based in International Geneva and broader international academic and policy circles. These include partnerships, networks, consultancies and student internships with International Organisations, civil society, business, academic institutions, think tanks, governments, among others.

Sustainable Development Solutions Network

In 2012, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon launched the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) to mobilize global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical problem solving for sustainable development, including the design and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Following their adoption, they are now committed to supporting the implementation of the SDGs at local, national, and global scales.

They aim to accelerate joint learning and help to overcome the compartmentalization of technical and policy work by promoting integrated approaches to the interconnected economic, social, and environmental challenges confronting the world. The SDSN works closely with United Nations agencies, multilateral financing institutions, the private sector, and civil society.

SDG Targets for Fostering Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies

Agenda 2030 states that “there can be no sustainable development without peace and no peace without sustainable development.” Peace is identified as one of five areas of ‘critical importance for humanity and the planet’ – along with people, prosperity, the planet, and partnership:

The new agenda recognizes the need to build peaceful, just and inclusive societies that provide equal access to justice and that are based on respect for human rights (including the right to development), on effective rule of law and good governance at all levels and on transparent, effective and accountable institutions.

Factors which give rise to violence, insecurity and injustice are addressed in the agenda, with inequality, corruption, poor governance, and illicit financial and arms flows specifically identified. Leaders commit to redoubling efforts to resolve or prevent conflict, and to supporting post-conflict countries
